Current knowledge of the basic science of human oncogenic viruses viruses with a known connection to the initiation, growth, and / or development of various cancers allows an increasingly clearer understanding of the pathogenesis of viral and non-viral associated cancers, which in turn has led to the development of effective therapeutic approaches to these diseases and, most recently, vaccines for the viruses themselves. Viral Oncology: Basic Science and Clinical Applications offers clinicians and biomedical and pharmaceutical researchers the most comprehensive single source of information to date on cancer viruses obtained from bench and bedside, and allows further development of translational approaches for the effective treatment of patients with virus-associated malignancies. The book contains twenty-five (25) chapters covering basic and clinical aspects of viruses including HPV, HBV, HCV, polyomaviruses, Kaposis associated viruses, retroviruses (including HIV-1 associated malignancies) and EBV. Several chapters will be devoted to basic science of oncogenic viruses for the study of their pathogenesis, drug development and employment of viral vectors for vaccine and gene therapy. Clinical materials are embedded within chapters, and there are also complementary, clinically based chapters describing natural courses and treatments.
