The book aims at revealing some of the underlying themes in Islamic Finance by providing an assessment of the current contracts applied in Islamic banking and finance structures. It aims to address the current economic realities surrounding Islamic financial transactions, the application of contracts across different jurisdictions and what these contracts entail, in the hope of enabling its readers to discern the legitimacy of these contracts in its current form and whether they are truly in tandem with the spirit of Shariah law. The author will provide a technical perspective on contracts through a breakdown of its risk weightage, capital structures, creation of cash flows and balance sheets, while providing real life examples of contract application and understanding through interviews with bankers and global regulators, as well as from firsthand experience. The book will come with teaching ancillaries (powerpoint slides and instructor notes) to enhance its adoption potential across universities and bank training programs.
