While retaining the current blend of theory and practical application, this second edition of Plant Breeding will have the additional benefit of input from a third author, Hugo Campos, who has considerable experience working in plant breeding with commercial companies (in other words in the private sector). This will complement the experience of Brown and Caligari who have worked mainly in research institutes and universities (ie in the public sector). The new third author will add additional comments and information where relevant throughout the book. In addition to updates and amendments throughout the book, the chapter now entitled Complimentary Approaches to Plant Breeding will be completely rewritten and updated to more accurately reflect the current role of doubled haploids, molecular markers and genetically modified crops.
