The National Electrical Code is a major area of study for electrical students. The NEC is revised every three years, so customers adopt new Code textbooks every three years. The next Code release is scheduled for September 2013 for the 2014 Code. This book will publish in early January 2014.
The primary market for this text is in the career and two-year community colleges and technical colleges. Electrical Wiring is a required course in Electrical Technology; beyond this required course individual schools can choose to offer Residential, Commercial, Industrial or a combination of the three Electrical Wiring specialty areas. Most general electrical trades programs include both residential and commercial. Many electrical construction programs cover residential and then treat commercial as a second course, to give students employable skills. Students taking this course are often studying to become electricans or maintenance technicians.
