The book provides an introduction to the organizing principle and the fundamental axioms of an Islamic economy, micro- and macro-economic concepts and their implementation. The authors discuss the characteristics, rationale, objectives, organizing principles, policies and policy instruments in an economic system structured on the foundational teachings of Islam as envisioned in the Quran and their application during the life of the Prophet.  More specifically, the book addresses the core economic principles underlying an Islamic economic and financial system.   It addresses core concepts in economics such as social welfare, economic justice, functioning of markets, role of money, and efficiency and equity from Islamic perspective to lay the foundation of the economic system.  The implications for economic policies and governance are also examined. Finally, the role and instruments of fiscal and monetary policies in an Islamic economic system are discussed. Key objectives would be to develop a framework (1) for a working understanding of a vision of the economy and its institutional scaffolding; (2) to differentiate between the major characteristics of the dominant economic system and the vision of an economy based on the fundamental sources of Islam; and, (3) for an understanding of the conditions that must be met for a society to achieve a just, well-balanced, stable, and growing economy.
