This book, for professionals, faculty and students in health promotion in health education and community health nursing programs, is a practice-driven guide to promoting the health of individuals, families, communities, and groups.   Professional preparation is a major audience. Colleges that offer masters degrees relating to public health are required by the main accrediting organization (CEPH) to teach concepts and methods of social and behavioral sciences relevant to the identification and the solution of public health problems. Each chapter in part 2 will include: the importance of the area for intervention from an epidemiologic perspective; theoretical foundation(s) for clinical practice in the area, with one or more theoretical underpinnings for the major studies in this field, including; the stages of change, Health Belief Model, Prospect Theory and others; evidence-based literature review; and evidence-based clinical intervention, including a script that a clinician should follow, tools for office-based prevention, or general guidelines for intervention in this area. Part Three looks at the economic and political aspects of health promotion, including the growth of managed care, and discusses the critical issues affecting the future of health promotion.
