This book provides the material required for a single semester course in Environmental Remote Sensing plus additional, more advanced, reading for students specialising in some aspect of the subject. It is written largely in non-technical language yet it provides insights into more advanced topics that some may consider too difficult for a non-mathematician to understand. The case studies available from the website are fully-documented research projects complete with original data sets. For readers who do not have access to commercial image processing software, MIPS provides a licence-free, intuitive and comprehensive alternative. What?s new in the 5th edition? The 5th edition retains the visual approach of the previous edition, but streamlines the content in order to provide a more focused guide to image processing methods and applications in remote sensing. Two of the chapters from the 4th edition have been removed, with their salient parts redistributed across the other chapters. New examples have been added to reflect changes since the 4th edition, including material on the Copernicus missions, microsatellites and UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), and time series analysis methods. The book already has a student companion site: the electronic resources sited there will also be updated, and will take into account new online and open access sources already used by students.
