- More About the Author
The increase in exploration and exploitation of ocean resources, maritime trade and ocean energy have led to development of new concepts in the study of coastal and marine structures. These developments necessitate comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of ocean wave behavior in the offshore as well as in the nearshore, such as the phenomena of wave generation, propagation, deformation and its effects, which help to enlighten our understanding of its influence on coastal and offshore structures.Ocean Wave Dynamics for Coastal and Marine Structures is a recommended textbook for students and researchers in ocean sciences, engineering and related topics. It offers application of theoretical formulae to practical relevance through problem solving. This book will also be invaluable for professionals in ports, offshore and marine industries as well as consulting companies.
Prof. Vallam Sundar obtained his PhD from IIT Madras and has served as a faculty member since 1981. He is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Ocean Engineering. Prof. Sundar has surpervised 27 PhD, 14 MS and 12 MTech theses. He has about 550 publications in conferences and journals. He is editorial board member on about 10 international journals. In 2006, the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) elected him as Chairman of its Asia Pacific division. He served as a member of the panel of five international experts to review the Coastal Adaptation Study for Singapore from 2014 for three years. He was also member of the Board of Governors of IIT Madras. His solutions to various coastal erosion problems have led to fruitful results. His reports on tsunami mitigation master plan for the two maritime states, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, remain basic document for planning and implementation. Prof V. Sundar was awarded an honorary doctorate by University of Wuppertal, Germany, and Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Society of Hydraulics.
