Interpreting Engineering Drawings (IED) is a core text used by students and professionals to prepare them to effectively read and understand industrial (mechanical) prints and drawings. A print reading course is typically required in machine trades programs prior to, or in tandem with, core machining courses. In HiEd the course often has "Graphics" in the title and IED is one a portfolio of materials used. In addition, IED7 can be used by trades workers, builders and engineers/architects who need to have an understanding of industrial prints or those who need to expand their knowledge of print reading beyond machining in such areas as welding and piping.
HiEd is the primary market for IED. In Engineering and Engineering Technology programs (Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering/Engineering Technology, and General Engineering Technology), print reading/graphics is a core course, which is typically required in Years 1 or 2 where there are large enrollments of students.
