Medical Instrument Design and Development - From Requirements to Market Placements shows the reader how to design and produce a professional ECG starting from the engineering know-how taught at University. The book discusses the relevant ECG product technologies that are taught in many engineering courses (Bioengineering, Electronics, and Software Engineering etc.) In addition, the book contains the design (hardware, software, firmware) plus the economic concepts of a professional European certified ECG (PC based 12-lead resting ECG) complying the American ECG technical standard (AAMI EC 11). The design is provided in an open source license so that scientific and industrial community may experiment and evolve the product. The embedded ECG product and the state of art allow for a wider diffusion of ECG through the direct involvement of patients in ECG acquisition and the subsequent e-mail transmission to medical experts for diagnosis. Thus, the book also addresses the concept of Telemedicine.
