Studies have affirmed that outstanding leaders think with a higher degree of skill than their less-able counterparts. But surprisingly, research has shown that individuals who were never taught thinking skills are instead employing ones that were developed by them during childhood (before the age of 12). Thus, in an era of knowledge explosion, organizational performance accountability, and rapid change caused by technology, leaders and managers are trying to succeed using thinking patterns developed during childhood. This book will address why readers should seek to enhance their thinking skills, what their current thinking proficiencies and area for improvement are, and how they improve their thinking skill levels. This book will include the authors' Yale Assessment of Thinking, which is a 69 question, self-scored test that allows readers to determine their proficiencies in the areas of reasoning, insight, and self-knowledge. The previous edition of this book, Power Thinking for Leaders (without the test included) sold 20,000 copies driven solely by the authors' speaking schedule. The YAT has sold 50,000 copies since 1997. The J-B book will combine the test within the book and expand on its contents, providing examples across organizations of how the YAT has been used successfully, as well as including more techniques specifically designed to promote problem-solving, decision, making and creative thinking.
